Michael Antelope

Michael Antelope is a Canadian folk harmony duo from Hamilton Ontario consisting of singers and guitarists Doug McBrien and Lenny McGowan. Taking inspiration from acts like The Milk Carton Kids, Gillian Welch and Watchhouse, Michael antelope is the combination of thoughtful storytelling and beautiful melodies rooted in traditional folk styles. Doug McBrien's intricate flatpicking and close vocal harmonies playfully layer on top of Lenny’s steady rhythmic guitar and catchy melodic lines creating gentle and yet powerful performances that make you want to cuddle up as well as get up and dance. Their music explores themes of longing, loss, self discovery, queer love, family, gender and a great love for the natural world.

Doug and Lenny met playing together in local Ontario bands like Irresponsible Purchase and Bent Neck & the Joints, playing and writing together in their down time. The two shared many musical influences and enjoyed singing together songs from artists like Pinegrove, Bahamas and Daniel Romano. Sharing new music and ideas the duo eventually went on to write their own music that wouldn't be played live until 2023 when they started playing under the name Michael Antelope.
